The Universe Has Got Your Back - Youssef El Deriny

Hey! I'm Youssef El Deriny and I spoke about technology in one of the Rekindle events. Studying technology and its effects on the human race has become part of my daily life. Alongside researching the impact of technology on the human workforce in my IB research paper, I have lead a course in my school where I teach about exponential technologies.

In all honesty, I was never that interested in technology and I would've never imagined myself as one of the leading students on the matter. I started out as a volunteer at SciFest which is an event that promotes future technologies and their abilities. There, I was first introduced to Pepper, the first artificial intelligence robot capable of human social interactions. Thereafter, I was asked to give my opinion about the impact of technologies in one of my school assemblies, where I ended up saying in front of multiple school principles and representatives from across the globe that I am against the entire education system. Yeah... Whoops.

From there, everyone pretty much assumed that I was the expert and I was later on chosen to work on every project that has to do with technology. Although I didn't choose this path, it has shaped my everyday lifestyle and has created many networking and speaking opportunities for me in a wide variety of places. It has opened my eyes to new frontiers and I've been a wiser, more cautious man ever since. You don't always end up where you think you're going to end up, but you must know that the universe has a plan for you no matter what.
